After a routine mammogram, Amy received a call that changed her life. A team of female physicians and navigators, who are a part of the Women’s Health Pavilion team, rallied around her to develop a plan and offer the support she needed to thrive.
This modern new building provides convenient access to a range of women's health services under one roof.
The three-story, 40,000 square-foot Women's Health Pavilion was designed for women with a welcoming ambiance and was constructed with modern sustainable materials.
Located on the first floor of the Women’s Health Pavilion, the Sarah & Taylor Nederlander Breast Center features the most advanced technology for the early detection and diagnosis of breast cancer, including 3D mammography, breast ultrasound, breast MRI and more.
Tomosynthesis (3D) mammography is the current state-of-the-art technology for breast imaging. 3D mammography uses digital x-ray technology to capture multiple images of the entire breast from different angles to produce high-resolution, 3D images, enabling radiologists to “see through” the dense breast tissue and find cancer that may be hiding within it. The technology provides more accurate results with fewer false positives, thus lowering recalls while increasing cancer detection rates. Breast ultrasound utilizes high-frequency sound waves to create an internal image of the breast. A breast ultrasound is used to get a better look at any changes in the breast, such as lumps, and other areas that may look suspicious during a mammogram. Ultrasounds can also tell the difference between fluid filled masses (like cysts, that are unlikely to be cancer) and solid masses (might need further testing to be sure they’re not cancer).
Breast MRI is a powerful diagnostic tool for detecting breast cancer. It produces a clear, sharp image capturing even the tiniest irregularities. Unlike conventional whole-body MRI, breast MRI is designed specifically for breast imaging. This sophisticated technology provides detailed images of breast tissue using a magnetic field and radio waves instead of the x-rays used in mammography. Digital 3-D images can be viewed from any angle with unprecedented clarity. Learn more about Breast MRI.
An ultrasound-guided breast biopsy may be performed if an abnormality is identified in the breast during a mammogram, breast ultrasound, or breast MRI. An ultrasound-guided biopsy utilizes high-frequency sound waves to locate a suspicious area in the breast, and remove a tissue sample using a small, hallow needle for lab analysis. It is less invasive than surgical biopsy and leaves little to no scarring.
Breast tumor cryoablation is a minimally invasive tumor freezing treatment using ultracold temperature to treat benign or cancerous breast tumors non-operatively. An ultrasound is used during the procedure the entire time for guidance.
Dual Energy X-ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) is a convenient and painless test to identify bone density and determine the risk for developing osteoporosis and bone fractures. DEXA is also useful in following bone changes over time, by monitoring the effects that age, diet, medications and treatments have on bones. Learn more about DEXA Bone Density Test.
