Dr. Van der Reis is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with fellowship training in arthroscopy and sports medicine. His practice focuses on restoration of function and return to pre-injury activities, with cutting-edge arthroscopic and minimally invasive surgical techniques. Dr. Van der Reis prides himself on giving all of his patients a focused, practical approach to both surgical and non-surgical treatment for injuries.
Dr. Van der Reis completed an orthopaedic surgical residency at the University of California, San Francisco. He then completed a fellowship in arthroscopic surgery and sports medicine in Salt Lake City, Utah. Dr. Van der Reis has used this education and more than 10 years of practice to develop a patient-centered approach to minimally invasive surgery that uses the safest and most effective techniques available.
Dr. Van der Reis particularly enjoys working with athletes, both student and professional, in both injury prevention and surgery. A specialist in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery, Dr. Van der Reis has performed thousands of advanced arthroscopic surgical procedures of the shoulder, knee, ankle, elbow, and hip.
Dr. Van der Reis also teaches other surgeons advanced arthroscopic surgical techniques. Arthroscopic surgery involves the use of highly specialized instruments to perform surgery through very small incisions. The advantages of arthroscopic surgery are clear: smaller incisions, less scar tissue, less pain after surgery, and faster recovery.
