Sonia Rutten, MD, attended medical school at Virginia Commonwealth University, School of Medicine and served as Chief Resident during her family medicine residency at Kaiser Permanente Woodland Hills. Dr. Rutten was immersed in the world of medicine from a young age, shaped by her physician parents who initially practiced medicine in China and later specialized in Acupuncture and Eastern medicine in the United States. Her upbringing included active involvement in their clinic, exposing her to the impact of preventative care on long-term health. As a family medicine physician, she cherishes the opportunity to cultivate enduring relationships with her patients and their families.
Dr. Rutten aspires to foster a collaborative approach to patient care, guiding individuals toward well-informed healthcare decisions. She values her role as an advocate, especially during challenging or confusing situations.
I am most satisfied when I can educate and encourage a patient to become an active participant in their health. I love the “lightbulb” moment when my patient finally understands a difficult condition or diagnosis.
Dr. Rutten grew up in San Clemente, California and is fluent in Mandarin. Outside of medicine, Dr. Rutten finds joy in reading, savoring culinary delights, participating in barre classes, and chasing after her spirited toddler.
