Peter Kurzweil, M.D. is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with Memorial Orthopedic Surgical Group in Long Beach, CA and serves as the Program Director, Sports Medicine Graduate Medical Education at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center.
Dr. Kurzweil is an internationally recognized orthopedic surgeon with expertise in arthroscopic; reconstructive and joint replacement surgery of the knee and shoulder; and the treatment of athletic injuries. He also has expertise in minimally invasive and robot — assisted surgical procedures.
Dr. Kurzweil attended Amherst College where he graduated summa cum laude. He received his medical degree from the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry and elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) medical honor society. He completed his residency in orthopaedics at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center followed by a fellowship in sports medicine at the Southern California Center for Sports Medicine.
Dr. Kurzweil has given numerous national and international presentations on meniscus repair, ACL reconstruction, articular cartilage reconstruction and partial knee replacement. He has served as medical director, Orthopaedics at Long Beach Medical Center is a designated “Neutral Orthopedic Surgeon” for the National Football League (NFL), and served as team physician for California State University, Long Beach (CSULB).
Dr. Kurzweil is on the editorial boards for The Journal of Arthroscopy, Sports Medicine and Arthroscopy Review, and Orthopedics Today. He has published numerous articles, book chapters and is a frequent speaker at national and international meetings.
In addition to his professional commitments, Dr. Kurzweil enjoys skiing and continues to play as much tennis and pickleball as possible. He belongs to a gym and actually goes — working out at least five days week. Dr. Kurzweil strives to emphasize education to his peers as well as his patients. He truly believes that an informed patient is a vital part of the medical process and is committed to providing the highest quality service and most advanced methods of treatment available to his orthopedic patients.
