Abdullah Ibish, MD grew up in Laguna Niguel and considers himself a grassroots physician. That is because his experiences as a volunteer at Saddleback Memorial Hospital’s emergency department—right down the street from his house--inspired him to go into medicine. “My tenure as a high school student many years ago made me realize the paucity of inpatient emergent neurological care not only in community hospitals, but across the country,” he says. “That inspired me to find my niche in Emergent Neurology.” Today, Dr. Ibish is considered an expert in the treatment of Stroke and Traumatic Brain Injury, and he has chosen to come home to practice Emergency Neurology subspecializing in Vascular/Stroke Neurology and Traumatic Brain Injury/ Neurocritical care at MemorialCare.
Dr. Ibish has completed two Fellowships and is Board-certified in both subspecialties. He completed a Stroke Fellowship at the University of Southern California (USC Keck School of Medicine) + LA County Medical Center (LAC) and served on Clinical Faculty as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Neurosurgery, Division of Neurocritical Care at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. He earned his medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, DC. In addition to his work as a Neurologist, Dr. Ibish has served as a Sub-Investigator on numerous Stroke and Vascular Dementia clinical trials.
“I get the most satisfaction professionally from providing neurological care in under-served communities, and to the most vulnerable patient populations,” he says. Dr. Ibish played junior varsity basketball in high school and continues to enjoy the game to this day. Other favorite activities include being a father, hiking and basketball.
